形態特徵

• Small trees to 4.6 m tall, branchlets with whitish dot (lenticels).
• Leaves subsessile, alternate or subopposite, membranaceous, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 4.5–17.5 cm long, 4.3–10.5 cm wide, apex rounded to obtuse, base rounded, margins entire, lateral veins 7–18 pairs, ascending at ends but not connected at margin, brownish pubescent beneath, petiole 1–5 mm long.
• Flowers in short panicles, peduncle 2 cm long, pedicel 1 cm long; calyx linear, 2 mm long; corolla tube pubescent, 1 cm long, 1 mm wide, lobes 1 cm long; stamens 5, inserted at base of corolla tube, anthers included, free from stigma, apex caudate, base rounded; stigma bilobed, reaching to middle of anthers.
• Follicles linear, pedunculate, 17–30 cm long, 0.5–1.5 cm in diam., lenticels prominently whitish tuber-culate dots, peduncle 1 cm long. Seeds linear, with long coma.
• Mountain slopes between 950 m and 1,040 m. Root and bark used in medicine. Leaves also used to wrap native cigarettes for reducing smoker's cough (according to the label of Fernandes 1321, TAI).

分布

• 台灣 : cultivated. Y. Kudo (1934) reported this species as cultivated at the Kenting forest station.
• 世界 : India, Myanma, Malacca, occasionally cultivated elsewhere in the tropics, the precise locality for the native plant is still unknown.
